Random Restaurant Generator
The random restaurant generator picks one place from a list you build, each with the same chance: 1 in 5 if you add five restaurants. Add your options one at a time, then press Pick Random Restaurant.

How the random restaurant generator picks a place
You build the list yourself: type a restaurant, press Add, and repeat. Press the pick button and one entry is drawn, each with the same chance. The names that flick past before the result are for show; the pick is a single random draw made at the end.
Each pick is an unbiased draw from the browser's cryptographic random generator, as described in how our randomness works. For a one-off choice between dishes or films, the random choice generator works the same way without keeping a list.
Example: a month of random dinners
A household has five regular places and lets the generator choose every night for a month. Each place has a 1 in 5 chance per night, so over 30 nights each should come up about 6 times.
A real month rarely looks that even: some places come up well over 6 times and others well under, which is normal for 30 draws. The counts even out only over hundreds of picks. If a place keeps losing and you still want to go there, take it as a sign of what you prefer.
Where your restaurant list is saved
Your list is saved in your browser's local storage, so it is still there the next time you open the page on this device. It is not uploaded, and it does not follow you to another browser.
Remove an entry with its Remove button, or clear the whole list. To make the choice in front of a group, paste the same list into the wheel. For a yes-or-no question such as “eat out tonight?”, the yes or no generator is quicker.
Questions about the random restaurant generator
Can I give one restaurant a better chance?
Not on this page: a name that is already on the list is refused, so every place has the same chance. To weight one place, type them all into the random choice generator and write that one on two lines.
Does it suggest restaurants near me?
No. The page does not know any restaurants, opening hours or locations, and it does not ask where you are. It only chooses among the names you typed.
