Random Choice Generator

The random choice generator picks one option from your list, each line with the same chance: 1 in 4 if you type four options. Type your options, one per line, and press Pick one.

How the random choice generator picks an option

Each non-empty line in the box is one option. Press the button and one line is drawn, each with the same chance: with four options, 1 in 4. In statistics this is a discrete uniform distribution.

If you tick Remove choice after picking, the chosen line is deleted from the box, so the next draw is among the options that are left. Reset list brings back the list as it was at the first draw.

To give an option a better chance, write it on more than one line: an option on two of four lines comes up half the time. Each pick is an unbiased draw from the browser's cryptographic random generator, as described in how our randomness works.

Bar chart of 40,000 picks from the random choice generator with Pizza on two of four lines: Pizza was picked 20,095 times against 20,000 expected, Sushi 10,073 and Tacos 9,832 against 10,000 each.
Every line has the same chance, so an option written twice is picked about twice as often. Expected counts in brackets.

Which random picker to use for which choice

This page is the plain version: type, press, done. For a draw that a room or a stream can watch, spin the wheel. For a list of people that needs splitting, use the team generator.

For two options, a coin flip is quicker, and for a single question the yes or no generator answers it. If the choice is where to eat every week, the random restaurant generator keeps your list of places between visits.
