First and Last Name Generator

Generate random names with customizable options. Select gender and origin to get culturally relevant name combinations.

How to Use:

  • Select a gender preference or choose "Any" for random selection
  • Choose an origin/nationality or select "Any" for mixed origins
  • Click "Generate Name" to create a random name combination
  • Keep clicking to generate more names with your selected preferences

Names come from ten fixed per-culture lists (American, British, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, Indian, Arabic), each with its own first-name and surname pool — so a "Spanish" pick draws only from Spanish first and last names, never a blended set.

What "Any" Actually Does

Leaving Origin on "Any" doesn't blend cultures within a single name — it randomly picks one of the ten cultures first, then pulls both the first and last name from that one culture's list. Leaving Gender on "Any" does mix within a culture: it merges that origin's male and female first-name lists before picking.

Example Output

Origin set to Japanese with Gender set to Female might return Sakura Watanabe. Origin left on Any could just as easily land on Carlos Fernández (Spanish) on one click and Oliver Davies (British) on the next — no culture is weighted more heavily than another.

Limitations

Each culture list holds 15 first names per gender and 15 surnames, so repeats become common once you've generated more than a handful of names — this is a fixed-list generator, not an AI or Markov-chain name synthesizer.

Typical Uses

Placeholder names for fiction drafts, populating a test user table, or quickly generating culturally-flavored names for a game character roster.
